Starke County Choralaires

Text Box:

REHEARSALS:  The Choralaires have changed their schedule in the last few months to try and “avoid” making everyone drive in the snowy icy months.  Our new schedule is listed below.       We do ask that members try to make 2 rehearsals monthly.  When we schedule a performance there may be a schedule alteration to make sure we are prepared.

Rehearsal Schedule:

Sept 1 to May 31 we meet at 5pm (CST) on the 2nd & 4th & 5th Monday of the month.  However we will not meet in January or February unless a we give a performance.

June 1 to Aug 31 we meet at 6pm (CST) on the 2nd & 4th & 5th Monday of the month.

Rehearsal Place:   (MAP)

The Knox United Methodist Church at 201 S. Shield has been nice enough to allow us the use of their facilities.

DUES:  Each choir member pays dues to the Starke County Extension and to the Melody Makers of Indiana, about $15 per season.  This year we received our music free because of a grant.  This saved each member about $30.

PERFORMANCES:  Each year in May or June the Choralaires perform for other County Choirs on what is called Festival Day.  This day is held at Purdue University and is concurrent with the IEHA Home & Family Conference.  On the same day, we join all other county choirs as a large chorus to perform a concert at Purdue.  The Choralaires also give at least 4 performances throughout the season at various organizations and business festivities.  We always try to perform at each extended-care or assisted-living facility in our county.  We also realize that most of our membership has another “life” so try to keep performances to a realistic amount each year.

CONCERT ATTIRE: To enable the choir to look our best, all members are required to wear black (shirt, top and shoes) on stage.  Colored scarves will be provided by the choir.  Since we are also members of the state choir called the Melody Makers of Indiana we require that a black Melody Makers shirt be purchased.  We can help members financially if necessary.

SOLOS:  We do have occasional solos in our repertoire and our director does hold auditions for both these and ensemble pieces.  Choir members are encouraged to try out often.

ACCOMPANISTS AND ADDITIONAL ENSEMBLES: While we do have a hired accompanist, we are always looking for someone to fill in occasionally both for practice and performance.  Please contact us if you would like to play.

It is important to the Choralaires to be a part of helping musicians, especially those that are younger and just starting out.  We encourage all singers of any age, pianists and other ensembles to contact us concerning our concerts.
